Junior Hannah Schwartz was standing in the Chick-fil-A line, telling her friends she needed an on-campus job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seconds later, Schwartz\u2019s eyes fell on a \u201cWe\u2019re Hiring!\u201d poster for the Wolverine Broadcast Network (WBN).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Wolverine Broadcast Network is Grove City\u2019s on-campus radio station that \u201cdelivers a digital stream of audio programming created and curated by student DJs, featuring an eclectic mix of music, podcasts, live and pre-recorded coverage of campus events, including sports, and more,\u201d as stated on its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally named WSAJ FM, Grove City\u2019s broadcast network began over 100 years ago, in 1920, as the \u201cfirst college to have brought to broadcast something out of local level (sic)\u201d months before Pittsburgh\u2019s preliminary broadcast on KDKA, according to Schwartz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have a constant flow of music that plays on our station that you can tune into or access through an app called Live 365. \u2026 Student leaders have control of what music is played, can make playlists and feature them,\u201d Schwartz said. \u201cIf musicians want to feature their music, they can also broadcast it on a real radio station. We also hope students will record podcasts so that the constant radio stream can be interrupted and feature a podcast.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current leadership team consists of senior Molly Miller, junior Hannah Schwartz, senior Nathan Devlin and sophomore Carson Brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the current assistant regional manager, Hannah Schwartz is \u201clooking forward to training people to use the recording technology.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schwartz was excited about events WBN has planned for this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are hoping to do Taco Tuesday trivia, which was an event last year where there were some great prizes and music-related trivia,\u201d she said. \u201cWe are hoping to make that even better this year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rooftops is another event that WBN has hosted. Students can participate by providing live music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGrove City is filled with very unique people and unique views, and I think that it would be fantastic to be able to create more healthy conversation around that. I think WBN and the podcast platform can be a way to celebrate one another,\u201d Schwartz said. \u201cIt can also be a way to spark more conversation, and I really want that. I want WBN to be a voice within the college and for the college.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
