The Grove City College men’s lacrosse team continued their PAC schedule last Saturday with a dominant 23-5 victory over Saint Vincent. With this win, the team extended their current win streak to five, advancing to 6-0 in PAC play and 7-7 overall.
This outstanding performance saw 13 different players get in on the scoring action. The win also served as the program’s Senior Day, proving to be the perfect outing to honor its 10 seniors.
“Winning on Senior Day was so much fun. It was even cooler that it isn’t all about us. A lot of the older guys started the game and by the fourth quarter we had all of our younger guys out there to end the game,” senior Stewart McClain said.
Leading the Wolverines’ offensive onslaught was senior attackman Mac Faircloth, who fired in four goals in the win. Faircloth was joined by classmate defender Sam Stevenson and McClain, who each tallied three goals for the day. Freshman midfielder Mason Lyon posted a hat trick in the outing as well.
A pack of Wolverines also added their names to the scoring record, which included senior faceoff specialist Colton Lehberg and classmate Rigdon Greene. Senior defender Andrew Glasgow, Faircloth, Lyons and Greene each chipped in assists to round things out offensively.
Lehberg went 16 for 16 on faceoffs and tallied a career-high 13 ground balls on his senior day. Senior goalie Tyler Gladstone held things down in goal, making five saves and posting a save percentage of .500 on the day.
Reflecting on his four years at Grove City, McClain shared what an honor it is to share the field with the other nine members of his class:
“My class will leave a legacy of hard workers who battled adversity, and a group that fell in love with the process with the outcome out of mind. Our class lost a couple along the way, but we are all great leaders, mentors, and young men who strive for excellence everyday,” McClain said.
After traveling to Bethany on Wednesday, the Wolverines will return to action tomorrow at home against St. Mary’s (Md.) at 11 a.m. on Robert E. Thorn Field. The match will conclude Grove City’s nonconference schedule and serve as a final opportunity to polish their play ahead of a potential NCAA run.
“Our continued success will be playing for an Audience of One and for the guys on the team. We are the tightest team in the country with our chemistry on and off the field and I love every single guy on the team,” McClain said.
“We will find success by following the plan and playing according to our core values as a team. Doesn’t matter who we play, we just need to play Grove City men’s lacrosse,” McClain said.
