This is truly the season of awards. Between the Grammy’s, the Writer’s Guild and the upcoming Oscars, the Actor Awards are in substantial company. Formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Award, the Actor Awards honor outstanding performances in movies and television dating back to 1995. They are highly respected due to the nature of their choice, and the winners are chosen by fellow actors. Its celebration is often associated with the way it acts as a predictor for the Oscars. March 1 noted the big night as Kristen Bell, a major 2025 winner, returned to host for the third time. Some notable presenters also consisted of Gwyneth Paltrow, Jacob Elordi, Jenna Ortega, Odessa A’zion, Mindy Kaling and Sarah Paulson.

The Actor Awards are known for their annual presentation of the SAG Life Achievement Award, which recognizes an actor’s career accomplishments and humanitarian work. This year’s ceremony recognized Harrison Ford and his lifelong contributions to the field. From his expansive career in film, ranging from Han Solo to Indiana Jones, to his work with the Conservation International to promote environmental advocacy, he is more than qualified for the honor.

The respective awards for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role sported particularly competitive pools. The former consisted of Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke, Michael B. Jordan and Jesse Plemons. Michael B. Jordan won the big title for his portrayal of the twins Smoke and Stack Moore in “Sinners.” He was widely praised for capturing their distinctive personalities despite the split role. The female counterparts consisted of Jessie Buckley, Rose Byrne, Kate Hudson, Chase Infiniti and Emma Stone. The award was presented to Jessie Buckley for her role as the wife of William Shakespeare in “Hamnet.” She was praised for her passionate portrayal, particularly given the grief-stricken tragedy (the death of her character’s son) that she depicted.

The next major category features an Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role and likewise an Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role. For the males, Miles Caton, Benicio Del Toro, Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal and Sean Penn were all in the running. But it was Sean Penn who earned the distinction for his role as “One Battle After Another’s” antagonist Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw. For the women, Odessa A‘zion, Ariana Grande, Amy Madigan, Wunmi Mosaku and Teyana Taylor. In one of the great upsets of the night, Amy Madigan took the title for her role in the horror film “Weapon” as Aunt Gladys, a character with unsettling connections to a series of disappearances.

The 2026 Actor Awards were a smashing success. The night’s big wins and occasional upsets are keeping the people on their toes ahead of the upcoming Oscars. Films like “Sinners” and “One Battle After Another” dominated nominations and highlighted some of the year’s most talked about films. These winners, directly recognized by 100,000 of their peers, are truly at the top of their game, with each award signifying the highest level of respect.
