Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?
Some of you may recognize this lyric as the opening line to Auld Lang Syne, a song typically sung to commemorate the start of a new calendar year.
Although I doubt you were counting down the days until the start of the 2026-27 academic year at Grove City College, it is important to answer the above question correctly.
No, we should not forget the old acquaintances from the previous school year. It does not matter if last year was your senior year of high school or junior year of college. It can be tempting, as life changes, to stop doing certain things, like reading and studying the Bible, eating healthy, spending time with friends, praying, doing homework or talking to your family, among other important things. But they must not be forgotten.
As we students find ourselves in another school year, The Collegian returns with new leadership, but the same promise to provide readers with articles that are filled with the information and entertainment you need and want.
While the old acquaintances have graduated, the new names and faces in these pages seek to bring to mind the skills and lessons they taught us so. The Collegian strives to uphold the high standards it sets and the trust it has built, perhaps even surpassing them.
In this first edition of Volume 112 of The Collegian, the staff has curated a selection of articles that should bring to mind the familiar start-of-the-year buzz that makes this college a special place to live. As for you freshmen, looking through these pages might help you feel like you already have the old acquaintance in mind.
News details all the things that have come to campus, including new faculty, a new ID system and a new service project.
Community details a guide for freshmen to become acquainted with the Grover spirit, alongside the always insightful advice of Dr. Love.
Perspectives spotlights the thoughts of your fellow students, featuring a vision for the opinion section and a freshman pep talk.
Entertainment highlights two contrasting, yet rightful legends, “The Odyssey” and Dolly Parton.
And finally, sports gets you amped up for the Wolverines’ PAC championship chases this fall.
On behalf of the staff, I welcome you to Grove City College and The Collegian. Here’s to God’s blessings in a happy new year.
